Los Problemas

On the Mexican American Holiday of Cinco de Mayo,  a symbolic Holiday representing liberation and freedom, the  Phoenix Suns will be wearing their Los Suns jerseys against the Spurs in protest of the new Arizona immigration bill SB 1070. The bill would allow authorities to question and search individuals who they suspect may be illegal immigrants and require them to have documents to be in the U.S. on them at all times. Many believe that this law encourages racial profiling of Hispanics and is at the center of  local and national political debate. The idea to wear the jerseys came from the team’s owner Robert Sarver who was born and raised in Arizona and is frustrated with the law. He stated

“However intended, the result of passing the law is that our basic principles of equal rights and protection under the law are being called into question,” he said, “and Arizona’s already struggling economy will suffer even further setbacks at a time when the state can ill-afford them.”

The Suns opposing second round rival the San Antonio Spurs also motioned to wear the Spanish version of their jerseys although it was already too late for league approval to occur. Suns guard Steve Nash has openly spoke about his views on the law and wearing the jersey saying

“I think it’s fantastic (the jerseys).I think the law is very misguided. I think it’s, unfortunately, to the detriment of our society and our civil liberties. I think it’s very important for us to stand up for things we believe in. As a team and as an organization, we have a lot of love and support for all of our fans. The league is very multicultural. We have players from all over the world, and our Latino community here is very strong and important to us.”

The NBA as a whole has denounced the passing of the law and many athlete’s across the professional sports world are of Hispanic descent and/or from foreign countries including Nash who is originally from Canada. Unless some detailed modification takes place on the bill we can expect the controversial law to continue to generate more opposition.

Real Talk: Weekend Sports Wrap Up

Kobe signed his extension with the Lakers worth reportedly $90 million

It’s been an exciting weekend for anyone who loves sports.  U had Butler and Duke both advance in the NCAA tournament and will go head to head tonight, to see who will be the 2010 NCAA Champs!!! Drop a comment and let us know who will win tonight?

Also, there was a big shake up in the NFL this weekend and future Hall of Famer Donovan McNabb now has a new home, but didn’t go too far.  He’ll stay in the NFC East division but will start the 2010-2011 season as a Washington Redskin.  Redskin fans have to be jumping w/ joy after the moves they’ve pulled off so far.

In NBA news Gilbert Arenas managed to dodge a jail stint for bringing loaded guns into the Washington Wizards locker room.  The judge instead ordered him into a halfway house.  Smarten Up people!!!  But he will go to jail for two days for medical screening & classification.  Also, the department wants him “to see a jail and understand what they have avoided,” according to ESPN .

And as if he already didn’t have enough to smile about, Kobe Bryant signed his extension w/ the Los Angeles Lakers worth reportedly $90 million over 3 yrs.  WOW, gotta love the NBA!!!

Singer Keyshia Cole & Cleveland Caviliers point guard Daniel Gibson have annouced the birth of their baby boy.  The two are currently engaged and plan to get married very soon.  Cole’s publicist, Tresa Sanders, says in a statement to The Associated Press that Daniel Hiram Gibson Jr. was born Tuesday evening. He weighs 7 pounds, 3 ounces.  She goes on to say, “mother and baby are doing great” and Cole would especially like to thank her fans.

On a sports note, it looked like the Cavs didn’t miss Daniel “Boobie” Gibson much last night as they crushed the league’s worst team, the New Jersey Nets.  LeBron James finished w/ 26 pts, 14 assts, and 7 rebounds in a 111-92 rout last night.

His name is Kevin Durant…and he has a problem. He is one of the top 3 players in the NBA, neck and neck with Lebron James for MVP, leading his team on a 9 game win streak and somehow we are still sleeping on him. He can shoot like Glen Rice in the 90’s, jump like Clyde Drexler in the 80’s and is second only to Jordan in consecutive games scoring over 25 points, with 28 and counting.

Durant is going to take the Oklahoma City thunder to the playoffs with probably the 5th seed or higher and you don’t even know where Oklahoma City is. Kevin Durant was featured in the Nike Hyperize shoe commercial but you wouldn’t recognize his shoes if you saw them in Foot Locker. But don’t feel bad, it’s not your fault. There is a perfectly logical explanation for all of this. Kevin Durant doesn’t exist.

He is a figment of our imagination. He only materializes for 48 minutes at a time, shoots over everyone hitting shots that people only try in a game of HORSE then vaporizes as soon as the lights go off. He is not a part of the collective media hype. He doesn’t get those special 1 on 1 interviews and doesn’t have many endorsements. All he does is abuse his addiction, scoring baskets. If you hold a basketball up to a mirror and say his name 3 times in the dark he will appear, claws and fangs out with a quiet calm smile. He is Kevin Durant. He has a problem.

Three-time NBA All-star Gilbert Arenas, known for being a prankster and jokester on and off the court, probably wishes he could take this one back.  He admits that he drew guns in a team locker room as a prank and on yesterday he spent his afternoon  in a voluntary meeting with federal prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington and with D.C. metropolitan police about the incident.

Here’s what Areanas had to say on the incident:

“I took the unloaded guns out in a misguided effort to play a joke on a teammate,” Arenas said in a statement released Monday. “Contrary to some press accounts, I never threatened or assaulted anyone with the guns and never pointed them at anyone. Joke or not, I now recognize that what I did was a mistake and was wrong.”

It may be too little, too late for explanations because David Stern will probably be out to make a statement, heard league wide for this stunt.  Look for Arenas, who was already battling back from multiple surgeries to be suspended for a big amount of time and be served a huge fine.  As I always say, life is about choices.  You have to make the right choices and think before you act, especially when you’re getting paid more money than most people will see in a lifetime.  Some think his $100 million contract should be taken away from him?…What do you think?

Swagger Check: Nike Air Max LeBron VII

These are scheduled to drop in the near future.  Tell us what u think…

Jerry Stackhouse Gets Posterized!!!

John Wall got the best of Jerry Stackhouse in this one.  I hear he’s really good and headed to Kentucky in the fall.  To me this is worse than LBJ’s DunkGate scandal from a month or two ago.  LOL at the slow-motion replay!!! Priceless, well at least he was a good sport!!

LeBron James and his Nike team tried their best to keep the infamous tape from ever being leaked to the general public.  But in this day and age, nothing is safe, no matter how many tapes you confiscate. Check out what our friends at TMZ got there hands on…

For the record, the dunk doesn’t look too bad and the video image itself isn’t the best.  LOL What am I saying, Crawford got him pretty good.  I bet LeBron went up in the air thinking, there’s no way he’s gonna finish on me.  Just count it as a loss LBJ & get em next year.
