Brittany Murphy Dies at 32

Movies such as Clueless, Just Married, and 8 Mile come to mind when you think about Brittany Murphy.  Last night, she died from what doctors are calling natural causes at age 32 yrs old.  The death is very unexpected and she will be truly missed.  She died after collapsing in the bathroom.   She is due to appear in Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming film, “The Expendables,” set for release next year.

She dated Ashton Kutcher, who costarred with Murphy in 2003’s romantic comedy “Just Married.”

Kutcher sent a message on Twitter Sunday morning about Murphy’s death: “2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine,” Kutcher wrote. “My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon.”

thriller-michael-jackson

On Thursday, June 25th we lost the Greatest Entertainer of All-Time.  Michael Jackson died at the age of 50 at a Los Angeles Hospital.  His 1982 album “Thriller” which included the blockbuster hits “Beat It,” “Billie Jean” and “Thriller” remains the biggest-selling album of all time, with more than 26 million copies.

I remember trying to do the moon walk in my socks as a child growing up, never being able to fully emulate Michael’s effortless touch.  I also remember how everything stopped on TV when his video “Scream” w/ Janet Jackson premiered.  He gave his all in every performance and loved his fans and everyone across the country.  He was a philanthropist, one who wanted to end racism and racial barriers, a father, and a loving son.  Since his death his album sales have soared tremendously, as fans want some sort of memento.  Every artist today, from Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Usher, and more all took bits and pieces from MJ’s performances and all owe him a great deal.  The King of Pop will always be missed!!!

A few of his accomplishments:

  • “Thriller” is the second-best-selling album in U.S. history, at 28 million. Only a greatest hits compilation by The Eagles has sold more.
  • Thriller is the only album in the United States to have sold more copies than any other in two separate years, topping the sales charts in 1983 and 1984.
  • Four of Jackson’s albums, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, and Invincible, debuted at number one in the United States.
  • Jackson was the first artist to have four Top 10 singles from one album (Off the Wall).
  • Jackson was the first artist to have seven Top 10 singles from one album (Thriller), a feat matched only by his sister Janet and Bruce Springsteen.
  • Jackson was the first artist to simultaneously have the number one album and number one single on Billboard’s Pop Charts and Black Charts.
  • Jackson was the first artist in the 1980s to have two simultaneous Top 5 hits (“Beat It” and “Billie Jean” on April 16, 1983).
  • Jackson had nine number one singles in the 1980s, more than any other artist during the decade.

One of my favorite MJ hits!!!

Prediction Time…

Who will win it all?!?

Tonight’s the night!!! Game 1 of the NBA Finals and we wanna know who are you taking in this series?  I got Kobe and company winning it all this year, its his time.  He’s finally going to get a ring without Shaq.  He’s a scoring champion, league MVP, and has led his team to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances.  I can’t front though, I like what Dwight Howard and his team has been able to do throughout the season.  He’s been the main reason the Magic organization has turned around from its losing ways.  This year alone, he led the league in blocks and rebounds while becoming the defensive  Player of the Year.

I look forward to a competitive series but in the end, I’ll be watching Kobe hold up those 4 fingers.
