Police superintendent Jody Weis has recently caught flack for meeting w/ refuted Westside gang leaders in an attempt to reduce the violence on the streets.  The move, or threat as some view it is part of Chicago’s Gang Violence Reduction Initiative.  During the meeting, Weis warned gang leaders like Labar “Bro Man” Spann, an alleged Four Corner Hustlers leader and Jettie “Bo Diddley” Williams, the 50-year-old reputed leader of the Traveling Vice Lords to stop the killings or life for them would become miserable.

To carry out his threat, Weis told the gang leaders to remember the word RICO, and how homes, cars and other assets would be seized while conspiracy cases were brought upon gang leaders.  Many of the gang leaders in attendance said there’s no way I can be held responsible for what someone else does, and even hinted at the fact that they can’t control the young gang members.  After keeping up w/ this story, it’s interesting that gang leaders have really shown their true colors as being powerless (food for thought).

So is group responsibility a good way to quell the violence amongst rival gang members, senseless crimes, and other horrible behavior?

Should gang leaders be held responsible for the actions of the members below them & could this method work?

Well, the new House of Hoops is opening up and word is that Carlos Boozer and Taj Gibson are scheduled to be in attendance.  If you would like to get a picture w/ a new Chicago Bulls player and 2nd year player Taj Gibson, tomorrow is your big chance.  So bring your cameras and Bulls things that you would like to be signed if you plan on heading down to the House of Hoops.

I hear this debate all the time over “should marijuana become legalized”?  And the answer in my opinion is no for a variety of reasons.  The main reason though is due to the physical and psychological effects that marijuana has on the body. I’ll give you the short version: Marijuana’s active ingredient is THC, which is fat soluble.  This means, THC clings to the fattest organ(s) in the body which happens to be the brain.  This causes weed users to easily forget new things they’ve learned and a lot more effects.  Enough of the scientific talk though, back to our regular scheduled program.

A clergy (full of Chicago religious figures and leaders) and police officers have joined forces in the fight against marijuana and illegal paraphernalia.  They’ve recently backed a ban which is being pushed to the General Assembly to classify blunt wraps (as seen above) to be classified as drug  paraphernalia.  These wraps come in various flavors and are said to target urban youth.  That combined w/ the fact that they are inexpensive and can be found at any convenience store or gas station, and its no wonder they’ve raised so many eyebrows.

“Having this product in mainstream stores is like having drug pushers in our neighborhoods,” Bishop Larry Trotter, the pastor at Sweet Holy Spirit Church, said today. “Blunt wraps are an indefensible product marketed to children and entirely identified with illegal drug use.”

By allowing “blunt wraps” to be legally sold in stores, you’re saying to consumers we know that some may use marijuana, so here’s what you need to use that particular drug.  It totally goes against the law which says that possessing, manufacturing and/or distributing marijuana is illegal.

Weigh in and tell us is it ok to make marijuana illegal, but allow for items associated w/ it to be legally sold in stores?  What should happen next?

The Wedding Crasher Gets Married!!!

No, I’m not talking about the infamous couple facing criminal charges after crashing the White House’s state dinner.  I’m also not talking about the Ballon Boy couple striving for media attention.  I’m talking about funny-man Vince Vaughn, the “Couple’s Retreat” star who used to date Jennifer Aniston.  Vince Vaughn (39 yrs old) married fiancée Kyla Weber (31 yrs old) in a small ceremony before family and friends in Lake Forest.  People.com reports he even revealed “he reached the first time he really want to have kids”.

On Friday, the talk show queen Oprah Winfrey made the announcement that in September 2011 her show will end.  “After much prayer and careful thought, I decided that next season, season 25 will be the last season,” Winfrey told audience members. “I love this show. … This show has been my life and I love it enough to know when it’s time to say goodbye.”  She made sure to thank all her loyal viewers for their support over the years before the end of Friday’s show.  And don’t worry, this isn’t the last we’ll see of Oprah.  She plans to start a cable channel called O.W.N. or the Oprah Winfrey Network and its a joint venture w/ Discovery.  She’s done alot for different organizations, the City of Chicago, needy families and children, teachers and more.  She’ll truly be missed but never forgotten as the talk show queen!!!

D’oh: Patrick Kane Indicted by Grand Jury

Ok, so I’m sure by now everyone knows about Blackhawk star Patrick Kane.  Great rookie season, led his team into the playoffs, but as of late ran into some trouble.  Him and his cousin, allegedly beat up and robbed a cab driver all b/c he didn’t give them proper change for their cab ride.  The cab drive allegedly shorted them 20 cents and that’s when things took a turn for the worse.  On Wednesday, the two were indicted on misdemeanor assault and theft charges but a grand jury dismissed the more serious felony second-degree robbery charges.  They face up to a year in jail.  We have to make better decisions, especially when you’re in the public eye.  He could lose out of alot of future endorsements b/c many companies may not want a star w/ his type of past history.  Where’s Homer Simpson…ahh there he is!

The Wrigley Field Beer Tosser!!!

Last week the Phillies & Cubs were in action and the Phillies won.  During the game though, Johnny Macchione (a Cubs fan of course) chucked a cold one at a Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino at Wrigley Field.  As a result, the security team thought they grabbed the right guy and made him exit the stadium.  When in fact, they didn’t but the culprit has come forward and has apologized.  He faces misdemeanor charges for battery and illegal conduct in a sports facility.  I’m glad he turned himself in b/c those Cubs fans sure looked upset LOL.  No MLB player deserves to have beer thrown in their face as he makes a routine pop fly catch.  It’s not his fault, your team is losing.  Talk about being a sore sport or in this case a spoiled sport.
