Jail

The Cook County Jail is the largest singled-site jail in the United States. It houses around 10,000 men and women arrested in Cook County over the age of 17. Inmates in the jail vary in level of offenses. There are 11 divisions that seperate inmates by security level (minimum-maximum) but like most detention facilities it is still largely overcrowded. Inmates  may come here for misdemeanor violations like retail theft, up to felony drug charges and murders. The Youth Services Department is apart of the Jail Diversion Crime Prevention branch of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. One of our biggest goals is to keep youth from making choices that will lead them here.
