Wizards Star Wishes Magic Would Make Guns Disappear?!?

Three-time NBA All-star Gilbert Arenas, known for being a prankster and jokester on and off the court, probably wishes he could take this one back.  He admits that he drew guns in a team locker room as a prank and on yesterday he spent his afternoon  in a voluntary meeting with federal prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington and with D.C. metropolitan police about the incident.

Here’s what Areanas had to say on the incident:

“I took the unloaded guns out in a misguided effort to play a joke on a teammate,” Arenas said in a statement released Monday. “Contrary to some press accounts, I never threatened or assaulted anyone with the guns and never pointed them at anyone. Joke or not, I now recognize that what I did was a mistake and was wrong.”

It may be too little, too late for explanations because David Stern will probably be out to make a statement, heard league wide for this stunt.  Look for Arenas, who was already battling back from multiple surgeries to be suspended for a big amount of time and be served a huge fine.  As I always say, life is about choices.  You have to make the right choices and think before you act, especially when you’re getting paid more money than most people will see in a lifetime.  Some think his $100 million contract should be taken away from him?…What do you think?

Smarten Up: Kid accidentally Shoots Himself!!

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that earlier this morning, a 17 year old from the Back of the Woods Neighborhood accidentally shot himself while playing w/ a gun in the alley.  He’s listed in fair condition right now, but shot himself in the abdomen area.  The Chicago Police do plan to press charges on the teenage boy for discharging a gun and having an unregistered weapon.  Didn’t people learn anything from the infamous Plaxico Burress.  I believe today, he’s more known for shooting himself in the club as opposed to helping the Giants win a SuperBowl Title.

Kids guns aren’t cool and definitely do more damage than good.  Not only can they hurt or kill others around you, but they can also hurt you.  Now this kid, may be tried as an adult and face criminal charges for hurting himself.  Not only did he hurt himself physically, but he definitely hurt his future!!! Smarten Up!!!

Less Guns Turned in at Chicago’s Buy-Back Event

This weekend, Chicago hosted its annual gun by-back event w/ hopes of getting more guns off the streets.  In return for turning in guns at 1 of the 27 churches apart of the event, Chicagoans would recieve gift cards of 10-100 dollars.  But this year, the numbers of the prgram were down going from 6,8000 guns recovered in 08 to 1,887 guns recovered this year!  We’ve got to do better Chicago, especially if we want to see change in our communities.  Gun violence is at an all time high, which means we’re losing our future leaders to senseless violence.  Everywhere we turn, our youth are suffering from gun violence.

Why does Hot=Shot?

This past weekend 6 people were killed and almost a dozen more were injured as a result of gun violence in Chicago. This past weekend was also some of the warmest weather the city has seen this year. So what is it about the sun being out that puts people in the mood for killing each other? What could change it?

Biggest Fear

When I was a kid if you would have asked me what my biggest fear was I probably would have told you the Chuckie doll from the Child’s Play movies. Today CNN covered a story about the top 5 things that kids are afraid from ages 7-18 and for most kids across the country their fears are a lot more real. Things like being kidnapped, AIDS, and being threatened with a gun head the top of the list. This lets us know one of  two things, 1) either dolls aren’t as scary as they used to be or 2) young people of today are a lot more in tune about real world dangers. Let us know know what some of your biggest concerns are.
