Sports Wrap Up: Tiger Woods Sets his Return Date…SMH Gilbert Arenas Latest Interview…Dunk of the Year Candidate

Well, Tiger has made headlines again. No, no, no! I’m not talking about new allegations or sex scandals.  He recently released a five paragraph statement claiming his return to the golf course. He will return to the game of golf for the biggest stage…”The Master’s”.  I don’t know about you but I know networks such as ESPN and CBS are jumping up and down like excited children, while thinking of the ratings this guy is about to bring in.  Just think about the reaction from his peers, the news media and the fans.  This will be an event for the ages.

Gilbert…Gilbert…Gilbert.  Just a few years ago, you were the face of your franchise, competing for playoff pushes, and showing fans why you have a chance to gain a scoring title. My, have times changed.  In a recent Esquire Magazine interview Gilbert Arenas revealed that he deserves to be punished for bringing guns to the locker room, and went on to say that he wasn’t using “longevity thinking” when he took out four guns in what he says was an attempt to play a prank on a teammate.  Arenas pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge in January and will be sentenced next week. He has been suspended until the end of the season by the NBA.

OMG…It seems that the athletes these days come straight from the video games these days w/ the dunks and antics they attempt. Check these out and tell me if which dunk was better:

Singer Keyshia Cole Gives Birth to Baby Boy…

Singer Keyshia Cole & Cleveland Caviliers point guard Daniel Gibson have annouced the birth of their baby boy.  The two are currently engaged and plan to get married very soon.  Cole’s publicist, Tresa Sanders, says in a statement to The Associated Press that Daniel Hiram Gibson Jr. was born Tuesday evening. He weighs 7 pounds, 3 ounces.  She goes on to say, “mother and baby are doing great” and Cole would especially like to thank her fans.

On a sports note, it looked like the Cavs didn’t miss Daniel “Boobie” Gibson much last night as they crushed the league’s worst team, the New Jersey Nets.  LeBron James finished w/ 26 pts, 14 assts, and 7 rebounds in a 111-92 rout last night.

Scorers Anonymous: Hi My Name Is Kevin… And I Have A Problem

His name is Kevin Durant…and he has a problem. He is one of the top 3 players in the NBA, neck and neck with Lebron James for MVP, leading his team on a 9 game win streak and somehow we are still sleeping on him. He can shoot like Glen Rice in the 90′s, jump like Clyde Drexler in the 80′s and is second only to Jordan in consecutive games scoring over 25 points, with 28 and counting.

 

Durant is going to take the Oklahoma City thunder to the playoffs with probably the 5th seed or higher and you don’t even know where Oklahoma City is. Kevin Durant was featured in the Nike Hyperize shoe commercial but you wouldn’t recognize his shoes if you saw them in Foot Locker. But don’t feel bad, it’s not your fault. There is a perfectly logical explanation for all of this. Kevin Durant doesn’t exist.

 He is a figment of our imagination. He only materializes for 48 minutes at a time, shoots over everyone hitting shots that people only try in a game of HORSE then vaporizes as soon as the lights go off. He is not a part of the collective media hype. He doesn’t get those special 1 on 1 interviews and doesn’t have many endorsements. All he does is abuse his addiction, scoring baskets. If you hold a basketball up to a mirror and say his name 3 times in the dark he will appear, claws and fangs out with a quiet calm smile. He is Kevin Durant. He has a problem.

For the record, the dunk doesn’t look too bad and the video image itself isn’t the best.  LOL What am I saying, Crawford got him pretty good.  I bet LeBron went up in the air thinking, there’s no way he’s gonna finish on me.  Just count it as a loss LBJ & get em next year.

3 Feet..No Pressure

I remember when I was about 12 years old and got my first basketball hoop in the backyard. Any time somebody would D’ Up on you real good on an inbound pass you could just say “3 Feet No Pressure!” and they had to back up. They knew they had to give you some space. But most the time when you’re under pressure it aint that simple.

 My family had moved from the South Side of Chicago to South Suburban Riverdale when I was 8. At the time I had never even heard of Riverdale ,or been to a suburb ,or even had a conversation with a person who wasn’t black other than a teacher. Alot of that changed real fast. My dad had been in  jail since I was 4, me and my mom didn’t have the best relationship, and to make it worse I was an only child (sorta) with no cousins within 10 miles or 10 years close to my age.

My only release was when I went back to the city to visit my God Brother Chris and his family. The problem was to them I was an outsider now. Like anybody else I wasn’t trying to be considered the lame of the group so proving myself was a constant thing. They all were great at sports but physically I wasn’t gonna be able to compete. My outlet became music. Hip-Hop, or Rap (whichever you wanna call it) to me was more than what my parents saw it as. Yeah it was a lot of reckless examples of violence, drugs, degrading women etc. But what wasn’t mainstream was the art form in it. The skill, the cleverness, the wit, the passion. The beat, the mic, the crowd, the delivery, the flow all showed me I could do me and didn’t have to be like anybody. I would still hoop  but writing became my release, it was my 3 feet no pressure.
